Raindrop.io is the best-designed bookmarking app on the market and has the most generous free tier: unlimited bookmarks, collections, highlights and devices, with apps for every platform, for nothing. Rustem Mussabekov started it as a side project in 2013 and has run it full-time since 2019. It is the service most Pinboard and Pocket refugees landed on, and most of them are happy.

The comparison comes down to what you think a bookmark is. Raindrop's free plan stores links; its archive, full-text search, broken-link finder and duplicate finder are all Pro features, and if Pro lapses the archived copies are deleted after about a month. Bindle has no free tier and one price, $20 a year, with the archive and search in it, on the theory that the copy of the page is the product and the link is just its address.

What Raindrop does well

The free plan is, as one 2026 review put it, the best in the category, and it has stayed that way for a decade. The apps are real native apps and the client code is open source under MIT. The visual views, cards, covers, a magazine-style mood board, are why people who think in images choose it, and the collection model with nested folders and shared collections suits teams. Raindrop's own writing is candid and its changelog is busy: in 2025 and 2026 it added Wayback-backed copies of dead links, YouTube transcript search, full archives of X threads and Reddit posts, and an AI assistant that runs on its own servers and can be switched off.

Its Pro archive is more complete than Bindle's in one respect: it stores a page's text, images and formatting, up to 70 MB per item, and strips ads and trackers. Bindle stores the original HTML and the extracted text, up to 20 MB for text-like pages, and does not capture images or stylesheets, so a restored page reads correctly but renders plainly.

Where they differ

The archive is a tier. Every feature that protects you from a page disappearing, permanent copies, full-text search, broken-link scans, is in Raindrop Pro. Raindrop's help centre is clear about what happens when Pro ends: archived copies become inaccessible and are permanently deleted after about a month, while the bookmarks stay. Bindle's archive is not a tier, and a lapsed Bindle account keeps reading, searching and exporting everything; only saving new bookmarks pauses.

Text versus visual. Bindle is a two-line-per-bookmark list you drive with the keyboard: N to save, / to search, J and K to move, E to edit. There are no cards, covers or mood boards, and there are no native apps; it is a fast web app. If you want to see your bookmarks, Raindrop is the right choice. If you want to get through a thousand of them, Bindle is.

Search on the free plan. Raindrop's free search covers titles, descriptions, URLs, tags and notes; the text of the pages themselves is Pro. Bindle searches the archived text of every page from the first day of the trial.

Two one-person companies. Both services are run by a single developer, and the bus-factor worry comes up in threads about each. Raindrop has a decade of stability to point to; Bindle has an export button, a documented API, and a written promise of months of notice and a full export if it ever had to close.

How to move from Raindrop

In Raindrop, open Settings → Backups and export as CSV (available on the free plan).
Sign up for Bindle; the fourteen-day trial needs no card.
Settings → Import a file, pick the CSV. Titles, notes, tags and created dates carry over; each collection name becomes a tag, so nothing is flattened into one pile.
Bindle fetches and archives every imported page and flags the dead ones.
If you used highlights, they are not in Raindrop's CSV; copy the ones you care about into Bindle notes.

Who should pick which
